My lining is 6.5 mm. Can we still do the embryo transfer?
In a frozen transfer cycle my endometrium is 6.5 mm on day 14 of estrogen. The clinic is unsure whether to proceed. What thickness is usually preferred?
Short answer: Many clinics prefer around 7 to 8 mm or more with a trilaminar pattern, but pregnancies can occur at thinner measurements. The decision depends on history, lining pattern and whether further optimisation is realistic this cycle.
Answer #1
Thickness is one part of receptivity
Pattern, blood flow and prior transfer outcomes matter alongside the millimetre reading. Persistent thin lining may lead to longer estrogen priming, adjusted estrogen routes, cavity evaluation for adhesions, or deferring transfer rather than risking a poorly prepared cycle.

Answer #2
When clinics proceed versus pause
If this is a first thin reading and the pattern is still improving, a few more monitoring days may help. If the lining repeatedly plateaus below the clinic threshold despite optimisation, hysteroscopy or other workup is often wiser than repeated transfers into an unreceptive endometrium.

Call your clinic or go to the hospital the same day if you have
- Heavy unexpected bleeding on estrogen
- Severe migraine with visual symptoms on hormones
- Chest pain or calf swelling on hormones needs urgent care
