Are bloating and mood swings from progesterone normal in the two-week wait?
Since starting vaginal progesterone after FET I feel bloated, constipated, sleepy and irritable. Can I skip a dose when I feel worse?
Short answer: Bloating, breast tenderness, sleepiness and mood changes are common progesterone effects. Do not skip doses unless your doctor changes the plan. Report severe headache, calf pain, chest pain or allergic symptoms urgently.
Answer #1
Why progesterone feels intense
Progesterone relaxes smooth muscle and shifts fluid balance, so bloating and constipation are frequent. Vaginal gel or pessaries can also cause local discharge. These effects can mimic early pregnancy symptoms, which is why symptom-guessing is unreliable before the beta.

Answer #2
Never self-adjust the dose
Luteal support is timed to keep the lining receptive. Missing doses or switching brands without guidance can affect the cycle. Ask about stool softeners, timing of doses, and whether your protocol allows a different route if local irritation is severe—but keep support continuous until told otherwise.

Want help finding a clinic?
Get matched to one ART-registered clinic after consent — not a directory of calls.
Answers are general education for patients in India, not a diagnosis or personal medical advice. Best IVF Centers is a fertility matching service, not a clinic or hospital. Always follow your treating doctor's instructions. In an emergency, go to the nearest hospital.
