What ICSI means
ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) is a laboratory technique used with IVF in some cycles. A single sperm is injected into an egg rather than mixing eggs and sperm in a dish. This guide explains when ICSI is discussed. Best IVF Centers does not perform ICSI or decide who needs it.
ICSI versus standard IVF fertilisation
In conventional IVF, eggs and prepared sperm are combined in the lab and fertilisation is observed. With ICSI, an embryologist injects one sperm into each mature egg. Both approaches still sit inside an IVF cycle framework.
When doctors often discuss ICSI
ICSI is commonly considered for certain male-factor findings, prior fertilisation failure, or specific lab situations. It is not automatically required for every IVF cycle. The fertility specialist and lab advise based on your results.
What changes for you as a patient
From the patient side, stimulation and retrieval can look similar to IVF. The difference is mainly in the lab. Ask how ICSI affects fees and whether it is planned from the start or decided after seeing eggs and sperm on retrieval day.
Costs and packaging
Some clinics bundle ICSI into IVF packages; others list it as an add-on. Our ICSI cost page shows indicative ranges only. Always confirm inclusions in writing.
