What does a chemical pregnancy after IVF mean?
Beta was 28 then fell to 5. The clinic called it a biochemical pregnancy. Did the transfer fail because of something I did?
Short answer: A biochemical pregnancy means hCG rose briefly then declined before a sac was seen. It is an early loss, usually not caused by ordinary activity, and often relates to embryo aneuploidy or implantation biology.
Answer #1
You did not cause this by walking or working
Ordinary activity, mild exercise within advice, and working a desk job do not cause biochemical losses. Many early losses reflect chromosomal errors in the embryo that grading cannot see. Guilt is common and usually misplaced.

Answer #2
When to investigate further
A single biochemical pregnancy often leads to another similar transfer without extensive testing. Recurrent early losses deserve a structured workup. Keep taking prescribed medicines until the clinic confirms hCG clearance and discusses the next plan.

Get matched to one ART-registered clinic after consent — not a directory of calls.
Answers are general education for patients in India, not a diagnosis or personal medical advice. Best IVF Centers is a fertility matching service, not a clinic or hospital. Always follow your treating doctor's instructions. In an emergency, go to the nearest hospital.
