Is IUI better than timed intercourse on letrozole?
We ovulate on letrozole with monitoring. The clinic offered IUI. Does IUI clearly improve success over timed intercourse for unexplained infertility?
Short answer: For unexplained infertility, letrozole or gonadotropin with IUI often yields higher per-cycle pregnancy rates than intercourse alone, especially when semen parameters are borderline. Benefit is smaller if semen is excellent and timing is already precise.

Where IUI adds value
IUI bypasses the cervix and places a prepared motile sperm fraction higher in the tract at a controlled time. That helps mild male factor, cervical factor and some unexplained cases. It does not fix blocked tubes or severe sperm problems.

Compare the added IUI fee with your cumulative plan of three to four cycles. If several monitored letrozole cycles with good timing already failed, escalating to IUI or IVF may save time versus more of the same. Decision should include female age and how long you have been trying.
