How accurate are ovulation predictor kits?
LH kits show a smiley on day 16 but my cycles are 32 to 35 days. We timed intercourse and still no pregnancy after 8 months. Are kits enough?
Short answer: LH kits detect the surge before ovulation for many people but can mis-time long or PCOS cycles and cannot confirm egg release. After months of trying, a basic fertility evaluation is more useful than more kit purchases alone.
Answer #1
What kits can and cannot do
Most kits detect LH rise, which usually precedes ovulation by about 24 to 36 hours. They do not prove an egg was released, fertilised or implanted. False surges can occur with some fertility medicines and in PCOS with chronically elevated LH.

Answer #2
Next step after months of kits
At eight months of trying with longer cycles, ask for ovulation confirmation by ultrasound or mid-luteal progesterone, plus semen analysis. If ovulation is inconsistent, supervised induction is more efficient than another year of kit-based timing.
